Nick, you may be correct. I have been going to Franconia for 20 years and lived in Reckendorf from 1987-1990, so my memory may be playing some tricks on me. I do know however, that on my most recent visit(in the past year), that I was able to drink beer right from the barrel more often than not. Many breweries and bars may only offer one beer from the barrel, while others may offer two or three, not all were coming right off of the counter. It again comes down to economics, a beer on CO2 lasts a lot longer than a beer poured right from the keg using gravity to force it out. I still believe there are a majority of breweries that use gravity for at least one beer (usually their keller beer) than those that offer none. Most hefeweizen beers I had were poured from a bottle, even in breweries. |
