| I have to admit I use "brewpub" a little indiscriminately myself, but I try to use the term to denote a place that brews (of course) and is the only place you get their beer -- i.e. no offsite sales. So Brauerei Sippel in Baunach and Ambräusianum in Bamberg are brewpubs. Everything else in Bamberg is a brewery tap (a subsidiary of that giant German brewing conglomerate, Brauerei Ausschank :) ) Somebody once gave me a broader definition that I also like -- if you can tell when they are brewing by sense of smell alone, then it is a brewpub :) |
