Die Polizei

(I forgot this in my previous reply.) My first Saturday night at an Annafest (2005) saw me get drunk. We'd biked up there in the afternoon, not planning to spend the evening. Well, we biked down in time to miss the last train home, and had to take a cab. (IIRC, 25-30 € to Erlangen) I was drunk, and had even fallen from my bike for the first time since we'd started biking a few months before. (In this case, we were on the pedestrian bridge over the railway, and I'd come to a near-stop and turned my head back to warn she who was following me about some glass on the path.) A bruise on my leg from my wallet was the worst damage. Anyway, as I was locking up our bikes at the Bahnhof, after having missed the train, I was bemoaning the state of my affairs loadly enough to attract the attention of the Polizei on duty there for the Annafest. He just came over and asked me if "alles in Ordnung war", and let me be. "Point" being that the Police are quite lenient with drunks on bikes. At least in this one case. A guy I used to know was once biking drunk at 4.00, without his Ausweis (identification), swerving the wrong way down a street, and was let go after confirming his identity. Though, he's a Kiwi, and we know how much more everybody loves them and their charm, so perhaps he's not a good example to cite! Anyway, the danger is not the DUI on bikes, but everything else that might happen. Which is miniscule in comparison to driving a car, though yes, greater than hoofing it.
