| Some of you may know Andreas Gaenstaller (a/k/a "Andy") who worked at Mahrs. He (and his wife Manuela who worked in the office) have left and Andy has rented the Beck Brauerei in Trabelsdorf. http://www.franconiabeerguide.com/CityDetail.asp?City=Trabelsdorf I'm sure the beer is very good -- I hope to report back soon. 2007 is the 1000th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Bamberg. In its honor, Mahrs has brewed a new beer called "Sternen Hell." It is only available in bottles but it doesn't taste all that much different than their normal Helles. It has a very pretty glass, though. And down the street from Mahrs (and Keesemann) is a relatively new hotel "Am Brauerei-Dreieck" ("at the corner of 3 breweries -- the third being Maisel). It is literally stumbling distance. The website is www.hotel-am-brauerei-dreieck.de Prices look reasonable but one two of their 14 rooms have "twin beds" -- the rest have those separate mattresses in one bed frame you often find in Europe. Oh, and the hotel is completely non-smoking :) |
