That's awesome. I'd assumed that the room up to the right of the Dominikanerklause would end up as a smoking room if a Rauchverbot (smoking ban) becomes enacted which still allows for smoking in "closed off" rooms in Gaststätten; do you know if this room will also be non-smoking? Either way, the latest word--such as I understand it--on a national Rauchverbot is...the 16 state governors met yesterday and agreed that they want to enact a Rauchverbot with state-by-state exceptions. In Bayern, beer tents would be excepted (duh, Oktoberfest). In other states--a swath from east-west across the middle of the country, basically--there would be exceptions for Gaststätten with separate rooms for smokers and "corner bars", bars too small to have a separate smoking room. More or less, if the governors have their way. This latest is being met with threats to revise worker protection laws at the federal level, which would effectively ban service in such exempted spaces. The federal gov't has juristiction over worker safety, whereas the states have juristictions over Gaststätte regulations. How any laws actually become enacted, that I haven't yet delved into. What do the governors have to do with it, for example? Ah well. My neighbor, a cynical Irishman, thinks that nothing will end up getting enacted; when the gov't starts to stall out and bicker about something, inertia develops and things just get dropped. Bah. Regardless, I'm *so* looking forward to going out to eat whereever we want without having to deal with others' filth others...at least tobacco filth. |
