I strongly advise against any drinking whilst driving in Germany. Perhaps a half litre over a leisurely lunch, or a few tasters of your companions' beers, but no more. A hire car is very useful if you want to visit remote breweries but the best arrangement is to share the driving, with one person not drinking on each day. I have been fortunate in the past in that friendly local people have volunteered to take me to many country breweries. On the subject of car hire companies, they get a bad press in the UK, a common problem is being charged for "damage" that was not spotted when you hired the car. I have not had this particular experience but have found them unhelpful and unfriendly. Be vigilant and read carefully what you are asked to sign for when you collect the car. |
