I also don't remember hair dryers, but then again I don't use them. Have you wonder so many European hotels have those shoe shine things (and I've never seen anybody use them)? I got some insight once talking to a hotel owner: I was staying at the Hotel Brouwer (because of the name!) in Amsterdam. I was really hesitant because it was a one star hotel and the previous hotel I used was a two star and was borderline. But comments from people made me try it and it was delightful! Anyway, I asked the owner how come he had only one star -- he said it was because of a number of things: No TV in the rooms (a plus for me!), no meat at breakfast (just bread and cheese) and no shoe shine machine! So I guess somewhere in these various hotel rating organizations there is a checklist and if you have a shoeshine machine you get to check (or tick if you're British) off a box. Its probably a cheap enough way to help get a better rating. |
