Schlenkerla Fastenbier

You're lucky -- I had to travel to Bamberg to taste it. We can't even get regular draft Schlenkerla in LA, let alone the Bock or Fastenbier. While I like the beer, its positioning kind of puzzles me. If it was mostly for export (or at least off site sales) I could see the lower smokiness. But the people who drink at Schlenkerla *like* the smoke (or else they'd go to Spezial). Obviously I don't know what I'm talking about, because Matthias told me they sold out ahead of schedule last year and even though they made more this year, they were on track to again sell out way before Easter. :) I guess I keep dreaming of a "Schlenkerla Pale Bock" -- like the Lagerbier only more so :)
