| The US Army introduced me to Bamberg too. I was already a beer drinker, but Bamberg changed my standards for beer. I always lived on the economy- Peulendorf near Schesslitz. All the Breweries in Schesslitz were great, plus the Drei Kronnen in Strassgeich, and of course Brauerei Hoh in Kottensdorf. I am pretty positive during my three and a half year tour I hit most of the places in Bamberg and the surrounding area. A freind and I tried to visit a new one every Friday afternoon on the way home. I always enjoyed the beer gravity flowed from a wooden keg, set on a copper sheet covered slanted table with a brass spigot banged in with a wooden mallet, in a ceramic mug. Later I did tours in Aschaffenburg and Schweinfurt, but the beers, variety of breweries, atmosphere and quality was never the same as Bamberg. |
