Rauchenfels and Sailer (thread was about Sailer taken over by Allgauer/Radeberger) |

The Rauchenfels brewery in Neustadt b. C. was already incorporated in the Sailer group before it was closed. Same for Schweizerhof in Kulmbach. I recall that the brewery in Kulmbach has deserved it's existence just because it was located in Kulmbach, therefore their beers could truly claim to be "Kulmbacher" beers - much to the annoyance of (then) Reichelbräu and EKU. What also has annoyed me quite often that many people who think they are more than half initiated in beer knowledge (but quite often show an almost complete ignorance) do confuse Rauchenfels brand beers with Rauchbier (smoke beer). Something that has never been counteracted by Sailer's, who probably were quite happy to surf along with the confusion and the popularity of Bamberg's Rauchbier (as with the popularity and fame of Kulmbach beers). |
