Add to the Rauchbier varieties also Weizen. Whilst "Rauchbier" implies the use of smoked malt, the terms Maerzen and Bock indicate the strength. BTW, the Schlenkerla Lager is *not* a smoke beer, no smoke malt is used. The faint smoky flavour gets there in the filtering process (the beer is filtered through the same filters as the Maerzen and bock, and some smoke flavours that got stuck in the filter material when filtering the smoke beers, go into the lager during the filtering). |
