Another of Fred's comments in another forum was also about adjuncts. When are they okay? In the kettle (sugar, corn, rice); in the fermenter (fruit beers); in the packaging (blended beers); in the glass (himbeer/waldmeister sirups in a Berliner weisse or Leipziger gose). I used to stick to the Rheinheitsgebot but just yesterday put sucrose in the kettle for a tripel-style beer. Some of my favorite beers are blended or have fruit (oud bruin, lambic beers). This hot summer I have become awfully fond of my homebrew Berlin style weisse with Goebber waldmeister syrup. So I don't know. If it is a matter of taste, then let them mix their drinks. If it is a matter of marketing, then teach them to think (taste) for themselves. More beer of more "styles" in more places. Wheat beer in Franconia; alt in Koeln! |
