Best Food in Germany

I would've thought all those stuffed peppers would make for great veggie eatin' in Romania!

AFA the best food in DE (Deutschland, not Delaware!) goes, I think it's pretty subjective. What do you consider good food to be? If it's Rheinland Brauhaus type fare like Himmel und Äd, then you have to go there. If it's more modern, less stereotypical regional German fare, then you have to seek out eateries that cater to such tastes, and they are not necessarily *rare*, but nothing so common like what we enjoyed in two weeks spent in Holland & Utrecht ("Ütrecht") recently.

In Frankenland, we eat very well at the local slow-food-accredited, half-Italian place Salz & Pfeffer, with its small, ever-changing, not-very-expensive menu (always good veggie options and Schanzenbräu vom CO2 Fass), as well as a local southern Italian place (Kitzmann).

And in Bamberg, we've been very pleased at the rather upscale Messerschmidt. Very fine dining there. My recent Karpfenfilet at Hotel Neopunk was good; a return visit will have to be in order to check out more of the menu.

I would reckon the best chance for one to eat well in Germany would have to be in Berlin. We enjoyed the food at that brewpub under the railway bridge a few years ago, better than the beer. I can't really recall much else from our visits there, food-wise.

Fränkischer Spiegelkarpfen is pretty hard to beat at Roppelt in Stiebarlimbach; some people say to only eat there on Fridays though, since the oil will be fresh from the Mittwoch-Donnerstag Ruhetage.

I reckon most tourists want to eat massive piles of roast pigmeat in Germany though, as cheaply as possible.
