OT: The Nanny State gone mad

So I ordered some specialist beer from a UK beer store, Beers of Europe, a massive warehouse and online store that has an outstanding selection of worldwide beer (ironically the German selection is the poorest). I bought some £230 of beer for a friend's wedding but was informed that BoE no longer ship beer overseas to the Channel Islands as they have changed carrier. I had used them many times before and never had a problem. Ok, so I'll send to a friend of mine in Scotland and he can post on to me by Royal Mail. He receives the box, repacks it and takes it to the post office. He has also been a beer supplier of mine for a few years and again, never a problem aside from the odd breakage.

Man/Woman at the post office asks what he is sending and he says "beer". Man/woman then informs him that, due to regulation changes, liquids can no longer be sent by post in the UK in bulk, only by 1 litre at a time. Apparently, the threat of liquids to other customers' post is too great and so the UK Government no less has made the decision to ban the postage of multiple bottles of liquids. Is the world so at peace and economic tranquility that the Government can afford to take the time to waste their time on such petty and ludicrous legislation that causes such disruption to a thriving online beer market? Perhaps if they actually took care of the items they carry one could kill 2 birds with one stone but of course it isn't like the customer is PAYING for a service is it.

Fortuneately many online beer stores have private courier companies but this has put a severe dent in my own beer importing which is essential in the island I live which has no interesting beer whatsoever.

Absurd.

p.s. my friend sent the wedding beer by courier at a cost of £70. For a wedding and the amazing beer we had such as Weyerbacher, Hoppin Frog, Cambridge, Lost Abbey/Port and more it was worth it. Just. .
