Ireland vs. rest of Europe (beer tourists, etc.)

I was going to jump in and defend Ireland also.

It is expensive but that is the downside of being in the Eurozone when maybe you shouldn't -- their currency can't devalue to match the economy.

I love the beers of the Porterhouse -- most are very good to execellent and I've never had a bad one. Every time I visit there seems to be a new brewery brewing something interesting.

The big problem seems to be that there are more places that sell "craft beer" than breweries that brew it, so many of the pubs have the same selection.

I agree it is not a "top tier" beer destination. I think Dublin is roughly in the same league as Salzburg (where I was drinking last week), beer-wise. Good beer to be found if you happen to go there.

And like Mark, it just makes me happy to be there :)  I don't have any identified Irish ancestors (though I'm sure there is some on my Mother's -- Canadian -- side). And I'm not that big a fan of Guiness (sometimes have one pint when I'm there)
