Danganella: any spring water?

Don't think that home food dryers have made it here - at least, I've not heard of them but that doesn't mean too much. There was only enough to fill a smallish frezzer bag, so I contented myself with squezzing as much air out possible, without crushing the hops, and freezing.

And yes, Nick, you are correct of course.

With regard to water quality: it may surprise people to learn that, to mix metaphors, not everything in the garden is rosy here. In fact, if you care to Google Ireland and water quality, you will see that we face a lot of problems in meeting EU standards. Our water comes from a large lake about 12 miles away and is ok-ish but a lot of chemicals are added in the purification process. We have big problems with ground water pollution as most rural areas, including  villages, do not have centralised sewage facilties and rely on septic tanks, many of which are old and defective. Currently, there is a campaign to inspect these and replace where defective. This is quite frightening for many people in rural Ireland, as few have the resources to install new equipment (estimated cost €5 - 12,000), including us!
