...for yet another great, great evening at Abseits! I'm sorry we had to run out so quickly and not say proper goodbyes, but such is the way of keeping to train schedules.

The Doppelbock took me back to the mid-90's and the Deschutes(*) Brocken Top Bock, though much stronger. Rather liked it as Barry notes, for sippin'. The other beer...to each his own.

I wanted Barry to try a couple of other dark lagers from the fränkischen Schweiz, ergo the Ott and Held Bräu. Plus a couple of Rotbier(s) from Mittelfranken. Plus a new, hopped-up, too-strong Pils from Rittmayer in Hallerndorf. I've always found beers from "the Switzerland" to not hold up well to age at all, going papery even before their expiration dates, as in the case of the Ott above. A crap shoot, these bottles. (Maybe their bottling lines let in too much oxygen?)

(* I mean the old, former Deschutes, back before Dr. Pengelly left and they changed course and dumbed down their good, basic beers, jumped on the EXTR3M3 BE3R!!1! bandwagon and went national, despite previously priding themselves on resisting expansion and distribution, back in the previous millennium.)
