At the bottom of the yellow section it says you need a "zone card" to go with your purchased MobiCard, which will define the exact zones you can use the MobiCard for. This is exempted in the case of using it in the cities of Nürnberg, Fürth or Erlangen, as well as with the full-region "10+ und mehr" fares. So, you can not use a 4-zone MobiCard for any 4 zones you want, only specific ones along a specific route. It's a bit complicated.
