Sadly, no. When I walked through their door, they were serving a Fassbier, so I thought we'd try that - it was very nice. Because we thought time was short and lots of places to go (plus some walking with J's bad hip), we decided to move on. Of course, we regretted this later and I wished we'd stayed at Sauer. But how do you know if you don't try! It's one of the downsides of beer exploration Franken that you never quite know if places are going to be open (remember our sad journey from Sesslach to Ebern?) and if there's actually going to be decent beer when you arrive. Compared say to England, there's much more variability in opening/closing times/dates and much variability in quality of beer and even if beer is available! Even my adopted lovely local (Neder) is wildly inconsistent. The sign outside says closing at 10 pm but the landlady decided to close at 9 pm on Saturday! Also, every night the Fass has been emptied long before closing, meaning we have to drink bottled beer, which is not so bad but most of us prefer Bier vom Fass. Incidentally, has Sauer undergone a big change? It's now like a big restaraunt inside, whereas in John White's photo (c.2004), it looks like a homely country pub.
