"Too broke" is maybe a bit hard! And "credit" is an evil word in this economic-powerhouse-of-Europe. I've been fantasising about taking over a business or pub in various parts of England recently, looking at prices online. The costs of outright buying a place can be pretty high vs. leasing one. I can imagine that even though real estate prices in the Franconian countryside might be quite a bit lower than in posher bits of England, they could still be difficult for the non-rich.
