Migration of this board to a new server |

| The past 11+ years this site has been running on the (borrowed) server of one of my clients. It's been on my "todo" list to move it to a (paid) hosted service but that would involve basically rewriting it so it's never bubbled to the top of the list (plus, there is a lot of beer out there that won't drink itself) But I am taking the first step and have rewritten the discussion board part, since that is fairly self contained. If you go to discuss.bambergbeerguide.com you'll see the new code running on a copy of the database (as of this afternoon). If you have a spare moment, head over there and play around with it: write some posts, etc. -- and let me know if you see any snags. Also let me know if it seems faster, slower, etc. etc. Don't put anything of import because at some point in a few days I may refresh the database again and anything on the new site will be lost. If you saved bookmarks and the like, the page names are all the same, except replace the ending ".asp" with ".php" If all goes well, next weekend I will do the live switchover -- but don't worry, I'll put in some autoforwards so you'll end up in the right place. As an aside, we've gone over 16,000 posts in the 11 years. That is a lot of beer. Oh and one final shameless commerce plug -- if you see an Amazon add, click on it before you order something and I get a small commission -- which will help defray the costs of the new hosting service. |
