Another New One Coming

Seems breweries are popping up all over the place. The latest one to come to my attention will be in ...wait for it... Erlangen. Next to giant Kitzmann and the brewpub Steinbach, Erlangen's third brewery will open in what I think is a former Schlecker shop location right in the Altstadt. (Schlecker is...was a huge drugstore/non-dispensing chemist's chain that went bankrupt a couple of years ago.) An article in yesterday's paper < http://www.nordbayern.de/region/erlangen/erlangens-altstadtmarkt-soll-aufgehubscht-werden-1.2970616 > talks about how the strip-mall-like Altstadtmarkt, actually the location of the long-gone Henninger brewery, will be renovated, and specifically how a "show-brewery" will be erected, in what I read to be the Schlecker location. The brewery in question will be a re-birth of the closed-in-1911 Weller brewery, for which a co-op group including Weller family members was formed, as discussed in < http://www.nordbayern.de/region/erlangen/weller-will-neue-erlanger-genossenschafts-brauerei-1.2937502 > "Weller Bier" has been brewed under contract/licence by Göller in Zeil am Main since 2011. Their calling it an "Erlanger Bier" has prompted Kitzmann to complain in letters to the paper a couple of times, FWIW. Unfortunately, the Weller Bier hasn't impressed: sweeter and than even Kitzmann, and just as bland. Maybe they'll brew something decently hopped at the Schau-Brauerei. Yeah, that'll probably come to pass.
