IPA!

Well, it's ALMOST Franconian, from Riedenburg in Niederbayern, but it is on sale at the local organic grocery, where I nearly fell over in amazement upon seeing it. "Hopcone Brew IPA": organic, 6.5% and 55 IBU. So astonished, I couldn't even take a clear photo. < http://i42.tinypic.com/34y4vb5.jpg > A better photo of the bottle from That Website That Is The Root Of All Evil: < http://res.cloudinary.com/ratebeer/image/upload/w_250,c_limit,q_80,d_beer_def.gif/beer_203486.jpg > So I had a half-bottle with lunch. And it is really bloody good -- for an IPA, that is, which means, it's much too strong. A bit of sweetness competes with the fairly impressive "hop backbone", but that's possibly due to the emmer in the grist. If they made this with all the hops and only 4% alcohol (and leave out the confusing emmer), I wouldn't have to brew at home. The label talks about the origin of IPA (or one of the versions anyway -- where the ale was brewed extra-strong and hoppy to survive the trip to India, where it was then supposed to be diluted, until they discovered how good it was "concentrated") and how the Braumeister father sent his two sons out into the world to discover what sort of beer they could bring into the lineup.
