OT: Visit to Eschawo

Now nearly a week into this year's expedition. Usual lengthy journey to reach final destination involved 3 days in Leipheim, where Hirschbraue was in cracking good form, both helles and dunkles. Enjoyed a few seidlas at the brewery but many bottles in the apartment. In my view, Hirsch is a really good little country brewery, very modest production and, seemingly, aspiration. I love the way they simply bottle the beer without filtration or any other treatment, which means that it is just beer vom Fass. They don't have printed labels, just a little tag around the swing top giving the drink by date. Agillis and Vogtlandbahn were in great form on the journey to Eschawo, arriving precisely on time at Regensburg and Windisch, where Charly was on hand to meet us. Managed to find a streaming of the FA Cup Final but was devastated as City turned in one of their worst performances for years and were beaten 1 - 0 by lowly Wigan. Some minute consolation as it was good for a little club to win for the first time and some of J's family originate from the town. A little bit of texting brought us into contact with Mark (Andersen) and we enjoyed a lovely evening in Beim Gloser with him and his mates, plus Charly and some locals. The weather hasn't been great since we arrived but, fortunately, this is not really keller country. Sunday, we reconvened in Gloser before heading up to Neuhaus. Zoigl in Manfred Punzmann's Scoilmichel was in good form and we met up with Jason (and his friend Ronnie) for a couple and then moved on to Kack'n. Some discussion about the relative qualities of Schoilmichel and Kack'n zoigl - J & I thought that Kack'n wasn't really in top form (good but a slightly 'old' taste), while the other thought it was better than Schoilmichel - made for a good FF stamtisch. Lively debate on various topics followed, as we put the world to rights, and the zoigl flowed freely. Jason bought a nice glass Krug and we eventually rolled back down the hill to Eschawo (last out!). We were felling a bit tired and said our goodbyes but Mark and Jason went for a farewell snifter in Gloser. Sorry to see them go, it's been a very convivial weekend and a great tribute to the FF (thanks Fred, as ever). Will be quietish for the next week until the arrival of the Scheidt familie! Should be able to get in some swimming (if the weather picks up) and walking in preparation for the onslaught!
