Bamberger Ferry Reopened

The plan of the ferry was developed by students of the Fachhochschule (University) Deggendorf (Prof. Neuner). It's an simple, historical technique without high investments, called "Gierseil-Fähranlage", historical used from 1657 until around 1900. I doesn't know the english name. Détails in German: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gierseilf%C3%A4hre It's ecologically, because the ferry uses the energy of the streaming water and of a man moving the ropse ("Gierseile") to change the direction. An image of the technique: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Schema_Gierf%C3%A4hre.png The ferry of Bamberg has places for 15 guests.
