OT: Reduction in UK beer prices |

| Very interesting, Jason. Going back in time, the price of a pint was quite uniform. In my youth in the late 1950s and early 1960s (!), a pint of mild was 10d or 11d (old pence) and bitter 1/- (one shilling) or 1/1d pretty much everywhere. By the mid-1980s, in our pub, bitter (no sales of mild in Bath/Bristol) was around £0.70p. I remember that putting it up by half a pence almost caused a riot! I wonder how these prices translate into modern prices in relation to inflation, wages, etc.? Prices do seem to vary a lot, both regionally and even by brewery. Some of the micro's seem to charge a bit more than the big locals like Holt's in Manchester, whichis probably one of the cheapest beers in Britain. Must tell my spouse that a bottle of whiskey should last a month! And well done CAMRA again! |
