OT: Reduction in UK beer prices

Don't get me on an OT discussion about Sam Smiths... Has some of the most beautiful and historical pubs in the world, has a cask beer that can be wonderful in OBB, and yet I've had so many bad experiences over the past few years. Last week I went to the Princess Louise in Holborn, central London, and the pint was off. I mean very off, vinegar smell and sour taste. The landlady denied there was anything wrong and told me to go to the Cittie of Yorke pub down the road.Sure, its cheap, and on form a great traditional Yorkshire bitter, but the company itself is a paradox of virtue. BTW, Sheffield and Manchester are still cheaper than most pubs in 'the south'. The difference remains in my experience.
