I would always just ask if they serve "bier vom holz fass". Ok, very few barrels are now made from wood these days (Schlenkerla aside, at least externally), but the message is understood. I was sure the Sauer Urbrau was from the barrel in the Keller in Rossdorf last year, I tend to notice as it makes such a difference to my enjoyment of a beer. Perhaps it was a one off or special occasion.
