Cask Ales in Ireland

... so then what about cask ale in the US? What I've seen the last few years here in New England is a growing trend of more and more cask ales becoming available on a more regular basis around the region. There is an organization here called NERAX that is doing a great job of promoting cask ale and they keep a Facebook page that notifies their followers as to when and where cask ales are being made available at pubs. It's not as widespread as I would like but it's growing slowly. I'd like to see more regular cask ales at my local pub in Sandwich, MA but at least if I want cask ale I only have to go to Plymouth on any given weekend or can make an excursion into Boston where places like Deep Ellum will usually have a cask of something going. Just recently Deep Ellum had a cask of Monschambacher Lager on the bar and followed that up with a Thornbridge Kipling the next week. They will also often have local beers on cask. There is a twice a year festival called NERAX (New England Real Ale Exhibition) that is really excellent with a mix of British and New England beers on cask and it does help to build enthusiasm amongst local beer drinkers for cask ale. So it's getting there slowly but at least it's on the rise not decline. Ireland may be a much tougher nut to crack. The reliance on Diageo products and Carlsberg is a bit ridiculous.
