Ost Bayern

It sometimes seems the local tourist agencies are carving up Bavaria in much the same way princes and dukes did five hundred years ago. IAC, I recently came upon, for the first time, this site: http://www.ostbayern-tourismus.de/ As you may be able to tell from the small map on their home page, their territory covers Regensburg, Passau, the entire Oberpfalz and a few other places. If you click on "Prospekte" in the navigation menu on the left, you will be brought to a page listing many, many brochures about the area. I did that a couple of weeks ago and yesterday, I found a package weighing 1.2kg waiting for me at home. They do not seem to limit how many you can order. All of them are free. They apparently ship (free) outside Europe (as you can see by the pull-down menu to choose your country) and finally, for all you monolinguists: you can choose one of three languages (yes, English is one of the three). I haven't tried this myself, so no guarantee, however at no cost, it seems well worth the risk. "Gastgeber", btw, is a book of accommodations, both hotel and holiday apartments. It seems to be very complete and is organised by location. There is only one beer offering, however it includes a type of place I've never heard of: a spa-distillery. There are also a number of spa-breweries where you can bathe in beer (while drinking it, according to the photo). Something like this might actually tempt my wife.
