What Mike described is a "Ratebeer-ian" not a beer geek. I proudly consider myself a beer geek as do most of the people I travel with. >> 1. you get upset if you discover you have drunk the same beer before. I only get upset if you drank the last one just about as I was to order. >> 2. the best beers are "extreme beers" Umm, no. >> 3. you don't actually enjoy drinking beer, you do it only to post on one of the beer sites. Some of you have met me -- did I look like I was not enjoying myself? And I have never posted a review to ratebeer or the others. I have posted info to *my* sites but that is it. >> 4. beer styles are the most important way of classifying and describing beers. I think "styles" should only be used in a descriptive sense: I could ask "Do you like top fermented beers with x% abc, y IBUs, x EBC, such-and-such malt profile?" But it is much easier so say "Do you like West Coast IPAs?" or "Do you like Ordinary Bitters?" >> 5. where would the world be without the BJCP? BJCP is fine for home brewers, which is the reason it exists. Anybody using a BJCP style in regards to a commerical beer is clueless -- with the except in a descriptive (not prescriptive) sense as in 4 above. >> 6. never drink a beer without checking first on RB or BA. I have never checked RB or BA before (or after) drinking a beer. >> 7. pay whatever it costs to get the BOTM (beer of the moment). Well, I do pay airlines lots of money to fly half way around the world to drink a beer I like, but I don't think that is what you mean. Never bought a beer on eBay or an auction site. I did sometimes by beer from Belgian Shop and from Frank Wetzel when he had that business. >> 8. beer is more than a beverage: it is a cultural movement. ??? >> 9. the best beer country is the US because more styles of beer are made there than anywhere else. Only said in response to people who say all American beer is swill. >> 10. Michael Jackson was a god. You are dating yourself, there are new gods out there :) >> 11. Check your undershirt drawer: if you have less than 50 undershirts from breweries, you're probably not a geek. First of all, my beer t-shirts are not keep in my underwear (or undershirt) drawer. Nicely folded on a shelf with my other t-shirts. Living in Souther California T-shirts are my usual daily wear. Some are from breweries, some are from beer festivals, some are from ThinkGeek.com and some are just plain. >>Anyone else have anything to contribute? Do you have anything constructive to say?
