Only a minute to address one point before bed after an evening out in Bamberg (with Jos B. sighting at Spezial)...we US homebrewers used to learn that an English pale ale was basically a bottled version of a (best?) bitter. Then APAs were like English ones but with citric hops. AIPA should be likewise, like IPA but with citric hops. Difference between a citric APA and an AIPA -- that's exactly the challenge. Well, the brewer should enter the beer in the proper category, to begin with. When doing a serious judging, you really don't need to drink too much beer.
