Barnikel (again) and Fawlty Towers

Actually, regarding Fawlty Towers, it is not so much that the proprietor (Mr. Fawlty) could not be bothered to treat his guests well, but it was that he was bumbling and had a comical assistant. So, often things went wrong at the hotel/restaurant. Based on my one visit to Barnikel, I can see why some might make the Fawlty Towers connection, but I would not really go that far.
