Bamberg trip highs and some lows.

The crankiness of (some) Bamberg waitresses and barmaids is part of local lore, and can change from place to place as well as from time to time. Klosterbräu has had its reputation for cranky staff, but my last few times in were pleasant. Schlenkerla is known for reliably cranky and impatient waitstaff, but again ... that varies. Mahr's has one (still there?) who is nearly a legend, and may even have served as an example for local cartoonist Marc Buchner, who had a couple of panels featured in Boris Braun's hardcover Bier Atlas depicting the stereotypically cranky Bamberg barmaid in classic form. Consider it part of the experience. Your visit report was a good read. I'm a little curious about the Greifenklau Weizen ... did I read somewhere that it was actually brewed at Göller in Zeil am Main? The mention of an underlying honey/malt taste at Eichhorn is something I've occasionally encountered at other brewer's pubs as well, and not necessarily consistently. When something like that happens, I consider it a rare and fortunate treat. It's happened at Hölzlein in Lohndorf, just one of the reasons I like that place.
