There are a lot of very helpful travel guides around, more than the two I've already mentioned. Here are some more: 1. http://www.nahverkehr.info/ - a guide to public transport in all of Europe. Also in English and Russian. It includes links and explanations of the various transport facilities at the local level. 2. http://www.bayern-fahrplan.de/auskunft/fahrplanauskunft - an invaluable search facility between any two places in Bavaria. The search can be done in German or English (look for the flags in the upper right side). 3. http://www.bayern-fahrplan.de/haltestellen-infos - part of the previous site, but only available in German. This is, I think, one of the nicest public transport sites I've seen. You select from the map or the list on the right, or type in the name of the train station of interest (don't forget to hit the submit button). The resulting page will show the station (only in German, unfortunately) including extensive information facilities at the station itself (including whether there's a WC and a pub), plus a map showing the bus platforms at the station and in the lower left in a blue box labeled "Bus-Anschlüsse:" the route numbers and destinations of each bus stopping at each platform. Scroll down and you'll find even more useful photos and maps. 4. And for a combination of pub/brewery and transport guide, I use http://www.bierland-oberfranken.de/ It's one of the most complete (and current) guides I've seen and under the map showing the location of the pub/brewery, it shows the route number of the local bus as well the name of the local area with a link to the DB search page (although you'll have the information yourself).
