The Peverill and the BP were familiar Manchester pubs but there were so many like them (tiled, Victoriana) when I was growing up in the City that these two didn't particularly stand out. Just across the road from the BP was a pub known to Mancunians as 'Tommy Ducks' (I think its actual name was the Prince of Wales) and was a historic spot being the place where J and I met! It had a preservation order which didn't put off the vandals from Greenall Whitley pulling it down after closing time one saturday night. Probably related to the people who pulled down the Firestone building in West London under the same conditions. The Rain Bar is new to me, although it is very close to where I spent most of my schooldays, many moons ago, and is near Manchester's gay area. The canal was a stinking drain full of rubbish when I was there. Good to see the old town smarten itself up a bit, in spite of some unfortunate changes.
