Visit to Bamberg - on mass

As I said, it's a big, free world! I don't know much about organised beer tourism, never really fancied it myself (I'm either anti-social or too mean!) but no one can deny the contribution made by such as the late John White. I for one would probably have never ventured into Franken without reading his accounts (and certainly never visited the Goldene Lowene in Hallstadt - anyone been there recently?). I don't know anything really about Andy's activities but am sure from his various contributions that he is well qualified to follow up his suggestion. As Jos says, there is a danger in invading a small community 'en masse' (as we say in British English). I live in a small rural community and have observed the phenomenon on numerous occasions. Also, I used to visit some rural spots in the UK to observe customs but found that it became a self-defeating activity when there were more observers than indigenous participants! On the other hand, as someone has commented, many of the rural breweries in Franken (and other parts of Germany) would probably welcome the trade. So, let's see what happens. Who knows what any of us may be doing this time next year.
