OT: Karneval in Düsseldorf

I knew that the Köln karneval "kicked off" on 11.11. But on a recent visit I found that Düsseldorf also have big celebrations on the same day. All of the pubs in the Altstadt were absolutely crammed with revellers and had DJs blasting out "schlager" music at deafening volumes. Füchsen even had bouncers on the door! I travelled to Köln the next day. It looked like the morning after a *very* big party. They were dismantling stages and temporary bars on the Heumarkt, Altermarkt and down by the river front. I walked over to Lommis and just had time for a quick drink before they closed at 2:30 PM. Once again, lack of research lets me down :( The front bar at Lommis is a basic pub, out back it all looks quite posh. Best beer of the weekend was at Schumacher Alt on Oststr. The good news is that none of the D-dorf brewpubs are going to go out of business anyday soon. They were all serving up good, fresh beer and were packed solid on the Weds, Thurs and Friday nights I paid a visit.
