Munich hotels

We're visiting Bamberg in December and had a thought that our journey may be broken by an overnight stay in Munich. It's the best part of 45 years since I was in that city , so my memory of it is a little vague, to say the least (vaguely recall drinking vast quantities of Lowenbrau and Spatenbrau as a teenager). Can anyone recomend a decent and reasonably priced hotel somewhere near the centre (i.e. handy for a quick foray to a few kellers!), suitable for a couple not exactly in the first flush of youth? Thanks in anticipation.
