Pottenstein area recommendations

About Pottenstein's breweries I can recommend Hufeisen's urdunkel and Mager's dunkel (also ur-hell and pils). In my opinion you can skip without any hesitation Wagner Bräu: normal beers produced elsewhere and I don't know if the hausbier (Pottensteiner) is still a real hausbier; anyway, for me, it's not comparable to the super-high standards of the area. North of Ebermannstadt/North-west of Pottenstein: here everything is top class. Stop at everyone of the eight (?) breweries of the area if you have time. If you have to choose, I can highly recommend, from north to south: Stadter in Sachsendorf, Kathi-Bräu in Heckenhof, Krug-Bräu in Breitenlesau, Schroll-Bräu in Nankendorf and Heckel in Waischenfeld. Also Reichold in Hochstahl and Held-Bräu in Oberailsfeld are very-very good. Personally I don't like very much Rothenbach's beers (Aufsess). North/North-est of Pottenstein: four breweries I think. Every single one is top class. Herold in Büchenbach and Gradl in Leups are already been recommended. My favourite here is Kürzdörfer in Lindenhardt (5 Km north of Leups): their vollbier-dunkel is fantastic and the landbier-hell too. Last but not least, Stöckel in Hintergereuth. All the best for your explorations. Sergio.
