Vist to Regensburg

Slightly off topic but hopefully of interest, this is an update following our visit to Regensburg. Regarding the town, slightly disspointing, not half as nice or authentic as Bamberg or even the heavily restored Nurnberg. Managed to sample quite a few beers: liked the Kneitinger hells and dunkel, also their pubs offer excellent service. The Spital beer garden very pleasurable on a sunny day and excellent beer. Star of the show for me was the Bischofshof Zoigl - ok, maybe not genuine zoigl but a lovely, unfiltered beer, whether in their beer garden or in a pub beside the Donau - wish I could have brought some back! Managed the journey to W/bach and it was well worth while. Takes a little bit of time to orientate but eventually managed to find the pub of the week, which was Fam. Weiss in Schlosshof. Lovely people, great beer, super atmosphere, all for E 1.80 a half litre! Managed the trek across the river (and up a very steep hill) to Neuhaus, where the pub of the week was Schoilmichel, run by Fam. Punzmann. Ditto comments re W/Bach. It just amazes me how this system works - what do the families do on the weeks when it's not their turn? Final point: we travelled on the newish Ryanair route Dublin - Memmingem (fare was less than E 50 return for two people). We have friends in Leipheim (2 stops from Ulm but in Bavaria), so we overnighted there both in and out. I would strongly recomend a visit - it's a lovely little town with a superb brewery pub: Hirschbrau. They serve excellent unfiltered hell and dunkel at E 2.40 a throw - great value, as is the food. If anyone wants any more info on any of this, please get in touch. Finally, thanks again for all the good advice before our trip. P.S. Had a Schlenkerla Rauchbier in Nurnberg - must get to Bamberg again before the year ends!
