Well it's a little known historical tidbit that the word "gross" was derived by the Bavarians from a 19th century American tourist whom happened witnessed King Ludwig II suck on the end of a Weisswurst one Sunday morning. Of course the locals thought he was referring to how "great" Ludwig was. So there you have it. So you see it's all just a simple misunderstanding.
