St. Georgenbräu

The brewery is so LARGE, that I don't know if any of the beer is really ungespundetes like that of smaller local breweries': the kegged stuff you'll likely find at dozens/hundreds of restaurants in Franconia, or the stuff poured from unpressurized kegs in the brewery Gaststätte or at the Keller in Buttenheim. I've heard rumors that they use Really Big Brewery Techniques to darken the beer, but I'm no expert. To me, their Kellerbier is better than it ought to be. The Pils, however, is outstanding. If one is really keyed up to try fresh St. Georgenbräu _in situ_, then I guess one should make the pilgrimmage to Buttenheim. But when one is in Franken, and one knows that much about beer, one should spend one's time elsewhere, I think. Me, I'm more than glad to have a "Kellerbier" at a Greek or Italian restaurant as opposed to a Greek or Italian wine...it's like the Full Sail Amber of Franken.
