"But the walk from Mahrs back to Luitpoldstrasse is only about 20 minutes." Yes, but it seems much longer when you've had too much to drink :) If I don't stay at Spezial, I sometimes stay in an Apartment on Judenstrasse. That is nice because after drinking at Stöhrenkeller you only have to remember "downhill" -- and you end up home :)
