Homebrewed Franconian-style Kellerbier wins award at AHA National Homebrew Competition
Posted by Rick Garvin on 2005-06-20 06:57:07
A Franconian Kellerbier roughly in the style of St. Georgenbrau Kellbier that was brewed by Tim Artz, Rick Garvin, and Christine Johnbrier of Virginia, USA won an award on June 18. The bronze third place medal was awarded at the American Homebrewer Associations National Homebrew Competition in the Historical/Specialty category. The full results are at http://www.beertown.org/events/nhc/2005_winners.html. This is a tough category in which to compete. It includes all of the beers that do not fit in the other 22 style categories. The fourth place beer in the category was a Kona Coffee Stout. There were 119 entrants in this category and over 4,100 entries over all. We submitted pages from John Conen's book as documentation on the style. Thanks to our friends in Bamberg and Franconia for teaching us about this wonderful beer. We hope to write up BJCP style definitions for the Franconian beers this year. More info on BJCP at http://www.bjcp.org/. Prosit, Rick
