The main part of the town (ignoring the industrial outskirts) is about the size of Cambridge (University part) or tourist part of York (i.e. 3km across). If you want a cut-out from the 1:50000 map for Bamberg send me your email and I send it (480kb). All of Germany is covered by digital maps now and with the overlay option it is easy to mark off the breweries (I have made my own Franconian brewery overlay plot). This also helps with planning hikes taking in numerous of the small villages.
