I have to say I don't come across many breweries in the whole country where the beer quality is 'poor'. Compared to the UK for instance where some breweries should never be allowed to brew. Given that most brew masters in Germany are qualified as such, plus the high standard all round, they can't really get away with brewing bad beer. I really don't see Murmann much and the beers I've tried weren't memorable. Oberhaid is a given, only beer I've poured away. I'd rather talk about beers that are above the average... yesterday I organized the beer for a football bash, 80 liters of Kellerbier from Sonnenbraeu Muersbach, I think it's possibly the best Kellerbier around right now (even vs Eichhorn). Another brewery that isn't mentioned enough, probably because it's not easy to get to without a car, is Bayer in Theinheim (Unterfranken). Their Landbier is fantastic. You can overnight there and the food is alsoof a very high standard. |
