Erm, slight over reaction I think. I was paraphrasing an American brewer (ballast point) I met at the bad staffelstein beer fest the other week. He loved the seidla pour and said that 1oz just wasn't enough. I was being pro Franken, not anti anything. There are reasons why there is a system in the US - we don't have those reasons here. For a start the beer is stronger- why would I want a 1oz pour of a lager? Barley wine - perhaps. So why imitate it? We have our own culture, stop downplaying it just because folks do things differently elsewhere (unfortunately by the nature of globalisation it's the US that takes the brunt of the blame). It strikes me as a cynical way to make money. A bit like a lot of the craft beer scene (here especially) - brew a bottom fermented ale, throw some exotic hops in and don't filter it then whack on a couple of euros premium. Looking at the prices in bierothek it all makes sense. |
