Sorry to have missed you. Sorry you missed Fred's most excellent event at Schlenkerla on Saturday. Thanks again to Fred for that.

I met up with Gunnar Friday afternoon in Erlangen for a Pils (Heller of Herzogenaurach, nice light touch of butter) at the big Weihnachtsmarkt (well worth a stop off on the way home from work someday, Jason) and then their Festbier at the other, small, mediaeval Weihnachtsmarkt.

Saturday saw me join the Sticke Warriors in the back room at Mahr's, where the U was like it has been recently, the Bock just fine (very pale, clean, not tremendously exciting) and the goose excellent.

The group had already headed on to Schlenkerla, but I figured I'd eat there rather than try to crash in on the table at Schlenkerla. Plus, I've really been enjoying eating at Mahr's recently.

I thought maybe I should stop in at Spezial for an U on the way to Schlenkerla (would be rude not to), and then remembered the Saturday closing only as I was riding by the closed shutters. So on to Schlenkerla, typically rammed with people on a weekend.

The question of whether the extra two months' lagering in the Holzfass helped the Ur-Bock or not...I definitely think so.

The one Eiche I had was a lovely Doppelbock, but a couple Seidla of Räucherbock definitely affects the palate. I'd not had an Eiche since one glass of the first year, when I found it too harsh and alcoholic. This was better.
