BBQ coming to Bamberg

What about lagers Barry?  It seems lagers became very popular in Britain and came from outside influence.  I realize this is not from immigration (or at least not much) but more from influence from and contact with other parts of Europe.

I don't think "craft beer" is a momentary craze.  In the US alone we're now going on 30-40 years of this and it continues to grow.  It's no longer a moment at this point.  As far as Germany goes .... well places like Hamburg, Berlin, etc. it will definitey have lasting effect since their brewing culture was pretty much decimated and this is mostly what has filled the vaccuum.  I just came back from a few days in Hamburg and the "craft beer" scene there has grown a lot in the last few years (and really only at the expense of crappy lagers like Astra and Holsten).  Visited a new brewery there called Hopper Brau where their brewery and tap room out in a industrial park (reminiscent of many here in the US) has created quite a loyal following and the place was quite busy. I don't think they're going anywhere other than up.

The key difference from Hamburg and Franconia is in Hamburg the craft beer scene really isn't replacing anything it is just filling a vaccum that already exists.  In Franconia of course there already is still in place a great brewing culture and loads of good beer to be had so the vaccum is very small.  However, as more and more attition occurs with the older breweries we'll see what happens.  I hope, like most of youi probably do, that new breweries that show will do a good job of brewing classic styles much like what has happened in the Czech Republic.  However some of them, just like in Czechia (Matuszka jumps to mind) will branch out and brew IPA's and so on.

I don't think it's a momentary craze though.  It should easily outlast my lifetime at the very least.
